Ramola

The onset of spring is announced by bards who, roaming from place to place sing of its charms on a sarangi or dholak. During the Holi festival, forgetting their worries, the people join in the festivity, which lasts more than a month and hundreds of songs of classical, semi classical, and folk variety are sung by both men and women to the tune of the Harmonium, tabla, dholak and manzira.

The coming of the Spring season is a matter of joy to everyone, in Kumaon and it is announced by the bards who, while roaming from place to place, sing on the tunes of a sarangi or dholak.The beautiful lands of Tibet, Nepal and the Indo-Gangetic plains has given a unique flavour to the Kumaoni music,

It has varieities in it, ranging between extreme simplcity to complex, from high sophistication found in the ballads, to the ceremonial songs sung by the Brahmin and the professional bards.
