The beautiful state of Uttarakhand, specially the region of Kumaon hills is rich in folk and the various folk tales. Tales of Ajua-Bafaul, Narsingh and Ghana, Purukh Pant and the tales of Chivalry of Gangnath, the mythical tales of Haru-Sem, Golu, Bin-bhat, Ganwara, Kalsem, Churmal Airi, Pari and Anchari are the more prominent ones.
It is interesting to know that many of these tales are transformed into ballads and are sung in beautiful melodies. The folk songs of Uttarakhand describe in poetic form, the glory of the Himalayan region and the beauty of the place, specially, Nandadevi, Panchhchulli, Trishul, and Chiplakot.
